Muataz received his M.Sc. from University of Dayton in the USA in chemical engineering and is certified in the areas of Systems Engineering (SYE), Management of Engineering System, System Engineering & Project Management, Engineering Organizational Development, and Engineering Economy. Additionally, he certified as a firefighter by the Sabic Fire Training.

Muataz is a researcher associate at KACST–UC Berkeley Center of Excellence for Nanomaterial for Clean Energy Applications (CENCA. Currently, his research focuses on the synthesis of new classes of porous crystals, such as metal organic frameworks (MOFs), zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs), and covalent organic frameworks (COFs).
